Why should you not have mirrors in the bedroom?
There is nothing wrong with having mirrors in a bedroom. Otherwise, where would you put the vanity table? It is not a should-have or should-not-have issue. It is a scale issue; how many mirrors or how large a mirror are we talking about? A large mirror panel on the closet door may have a more significant impact; a smaller mirror may have no impact one way or the other.
People have also stressed that you should not place a mirror across from the bed. Yes, ideally you would like to be able to see the mirror only by choice, and when you lay in bed you cannot avoid seeing yourself in such a mirror. Some people suggest covering the mirror at night. Why make your life so complicated? The worry itself creates more problems that the problem we are worry about. If the bedroom is the only place to put it, live with it; it will not kill you.
The issue of mirrors in general has been overblown by feng shui gossip. Some feng shui schools emphasize the use of mirrors, proposing that almost anything wrong can be cured by a different use of mirrors. Let’s use common sense and not ascribe too much power to the mirror. What is the mirror used for?
1. To reflect more light inside
2. To create the illusion of larger space
3. In very rare cases, to reflect a good view from outside to inside
4. Most importantly: for make-up and checking to see if you are dressed properly
So, when you are thinking of placing a mirror any place in your house, ask yourself which function you are trying to fulfill, and what is your reason for having a mirror? Do you really need a mirror there?
A mirror also can have negative aspects: it can create confusion and disorientation, and in doing so, it can create feelings of stress or conflict rather than peaceful feelings. Thus, the mirror-paneled closet (2-4 panels of mirror) may affect the emotions and sleep in a negative way.
Ok! My question has nothing to do with mirror in a bedroom, but it´s related to a main door of an appartment, wich access into it by an elevator… when the door elevator opens arrive into de wide and short hall facing the East wich happens to be good direction to the head of the family, but how I Understand, all the energy, good and bad that this elevator picks in its way is droping inside de place… I was thinking if placing a big mirror in front of the door, could be a way to repell these energy?
thank`s…
In the first place, why facing East is good direction to the head of the Family? The teaching of South associated with Fame, South-East to do with wealth and so on… are baseless. It was a modern creation by people who know little about what feng shui is really about. Never in Chinese feng shui tradition is there such a theory or practice. So let go of this idea for your consideration. Now about mirror, ask yourself what you try to achieve in placing a mirror in front of the door? If it does not serve a good purpose (either psychological or physical) then you do not need a mirror there. Feng shui is in tune with common sense–the universal sense.
@Shan-tung Hsu
Well, concernig to “…why facing East is good direction to the head of the Family?…”, by the way, is no problem for me to let it go.
How ever, I took a theory from a book calls A Master Course in Feng Shui, by Eva Wong, page 172. She explains, that the “interections between the family heads with de Earth Base in the palace where the principal doors is placed” indicates how for better or worth the heads of the family will acomplish the house support… Do you think, I can take this as a factor to analyse?
Now about the mirror, the only thing that I worry about is the energy quality coming from all the floors down stairs… Since these private elevator is transporting all the energy good or bad from the entrance hall of the building, going trough each apartment and then arrive to floor 4th.. expelling its breath into it. So a thougth, that if the mirror repells any kind of energy, may be I might use it to avoid these energy collage coming from every where… If you think, my appeciation is wrong, please tell me, wich is the best way to tread this?…Thank you for all the patience… but I learn that the commun sense is the first step for these Art, and until I feel it, I can stop ask.
Most serious feng shui scholars in China, especially those teach in architecture insititutes, had rejected the cosmology approach of feng shui long time ago and regarded it as the garbage aspect of feng shui. It created an obstacle for feng shui to be accepted and respected in academic circle.
Go back to your question, you do not need to worry about what kind of energy people living in different floor might have. The elevator does not bring bad energy to your floor. Just think you have a very positive energy and you bring it to your own floor and do not associate this matter with the mirror.
Master Shan-tung Hsu:
Thank´s a lot for your answers and the time you have taken to enlarge my vision on Feng Shui principles…

My question is in regards to the kitchen stove. Can it be placed in a peninsula instead of an island? Should it face a particular cardinal point? It’s OK if the cook when cooking gives its back to the entrance of the kitchen? I want to remodel my kitchen but want to design it according to Feng Shui principals.
